![]() This is definitely going to be a red flag for some readers, and I feel bad that I enjoyed the rest of the book as much as I did with this flag flying over it. The boys in this novel are overall just so cute and wholesome, but there is a problem with how the police are discussed in this novel, especially the incident revolving around Nick’s father. I feel a bit bad, overall I really enjoyed this book, but there were a few things that are problematic. The Extraordinaries, is a queer coming-of-age story about a fanboy with ADHD and the heroes he loves. And he’ll do it with or without the reluctant assistance of his best friend and maybe the love of his life, Seth Grey. However, he is one of the most popular fanfiction authors in the Extraordinaries fandom, which is sort of like a superpower, right? After a chance encounter with Shadow Star, the city’s greatest hero and Nick’s biggest crush, Nick sets off to become extraordinary himself. Nick Bell himself may not be extraordinary, unless ADHD is a superpower. ![]() ![]() So what if they can do things others can’t? That doesn’t make them more special than the rest of us. ![]()
